The Spring season is plenty of signals
of rebirth: a new cycle begins and the energy of this season
manifests in nature in many way. This is the time when trees
and plants, begin to blossom. The human body too start awakening
after winter's long sleep.
In the mood for love
In the springtime the hormones of the human species begin
to wake-up and love is in the air. It seems that everywhere
you look, people are falling in love. Couples stroll hand
in hand while the radio plays romantic songs. That's what
people mean when talking about "Spring Fever".
This strange kind of "fever" can be easily explained: adrenalin,
endorphins and some neurotransmitter levels raise as people
become more active in sunnier and warmer weather. The body
is more active and starts feeling good: it causes the same
feelings as being in love. After winter cold and inactivity,
the body is ready for action, which pumps up adrenalin and
make the brain react faster: the result is that perception
and therefore feelings are enhanced and emotions are experienced
in a different, stronger way.
It also means that both men and women are more sensuous since
all senses are naturally on high; even mood and blood pressure
change: in other words, everyone feel in love and need someone
else to share these feelings and new energy. That's why, spring
is definitely the season for passionate love, the time of
the year when you're in the right mood to find your soul mate.
Body and soul
But Spring is also the time of the year to nourish and heal
both your body and soul and fulfill all your senses: this
will bring you warmth and nourishment throughout the cold
winter.
After months of heavy, warming foods and drinks, we should
follow a lighter diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables
and high in vitamins and minerals. Spring has throughout history
been a time for cleansing the body. Herbs used for this purpose
are called alteratives and are useful in ridding the blood
of waste products and toxins.
Spring offers you plenty of season fruit and vegetables that
are particularly healty, and that at the same time delight
your senses with sweet flavours, bright colours and delicious
perfumes. Greens that can be found in this time of the year
are particularly useful for cleansing your body. Dandelion,
chicory, malva, can be used in salads and soups and sometimes
in drinks or wine, to please your guests when serving a light
lunch or dinner, while many herbs can be used to add a new
flavour to the punches you usually serve in your garden parties:
a Garden
Tea Punch, or a Fresh
Herb Cooler are original seasonal drinks with a surprinsingly
new taste.
Many fruit possess that same vital energy of new growth; rich
in vitamins and minerals, they bring energy to your body:
strawberrys for examples, are rich in vitamin C while peaches
and pears are rich in sugar and are very nutritious. All this
fruits acan be combined together to make fresh fruit salads,
but you can also put them in a mixer and make delicious smoothies
and alcohol free drinks: a Pear-Ginger Smoothie or
a Santa Cruz Boardwalk are refreshing beverages, perfect
in every occasion.
But fruit and vegetables can also add a very special touch
to many alcohol cocktail too: many well known recipes include
fresh fruit, from the peach and cranberry flavoured Woo
Woo to a mexican Chimayo or a Tutti-Frutti;
moreover seasonal fruits can be mixed in a variety of ways
to create your own original recipes: all you have to do is…
