Bacardi Silver available in February
Anheuser-Busch Cos. will introduce its rum-flavoured malt beverage, Bacardi Silver, in February.
The product, the result of an alliance between the St. Louis- based brewery and Bacardi USA, represents a significant foray into the fast-growing flavoured alcoholic beverage category.
A-B hopes that the drink will inject new life into sales by targeting the industry's most coveted customers: drinkers 21 to 27 years old.
Bacardi Silver is meant to challenge Smirnoff Ice, a popular vodka- and-citrus flavoured drink that has become an industry smash.
Under the deal, A-B licensed the Bacardi brand from Bacardi USA, and it will produce, bottle and market Bacardi Silver.
Bacardi Silver combines Bacardi rum and citrus flavours in a clear potion, with a taste that is crisp and refreshing.
The drink's clear, high-shouldered bottle with Bacardi's bat logo is meant to convey a sophisticated image.
Bacardi Silver's alcohol content is 5 percent, about the same as a bottle of beer.
